Paul Smith currently serves as co-pastor of Broadway Church in Kansas City, Missouri.

Serving several Southern Baptist churches in St. Louis while in high school and college, he completed his BA in psychology at Washington University in 1959 on a full academic scholarship. During that time, he also founded and led a series of annual youth camps and college retreats that were attended by thousands of young people over a period of ten years.

After receiving a Masters degree in theology and biblical studies from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri, he came to Broadway Baptist Church in midtown Kansas City in 1963 where he continues to pastor and teach today.

In his soon to be half a century as pastor at Broadway, the church experienced significant and on-going change, becoming nationally recognized as a pioneer in small groups, contemporary worship, team leadership, justice issues, progressive theology, church renewal, and spiritual formation. It continues to evolve today.

In 1980 he created a workshop on spiritual gifts which is used around the world, with over thirty thousand copies of the materials in print including Spanish, German, and Portuguese editions.

He delivered the 1988 Distinguished Christian Scholar Lecture Series at William Jewell College and has been listed in every edition of Who's Who in Religion since 1974. He was given the GLAAD Leadership Award in 1995.

Smith has taught extensively on contemporary church life in many churches and schools including St. Paul Methodist School of Theology, Unity Ministerial School, and Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

In addition to hundreds of CDs, brochures, booklets, and published articles outlining his theological beliefs and practices, he contributed two chapters to the book Enabling the Dialogue About Homosexuality, and has authored two books, Is It Okay To Call God Mother? Considering the feminine face of God (Hendrickson) and Integral Christianity – The Spirit’s Call to Evolve (Paragon House).

Paul is increasingly in demand to present workshops around the country on his new book Integral Christianity: The Spirit’s Call to Evolve. Three of the most requested topics are Six Varieties of Christians and Their Churches, How to Be an Everyday Mystic, and A New Picture of God in 3D.
